Great post by Gary Busey (The Zennist) on the origin of the Bodhi tree in Buddhism.
I especially like the concluding quote on how Buddhism is really just reformed Brahmanism. I think this is true but that also begs the question...how was it reformed and why? I have always felt that (I have zero to back this up) that it was an agnostic reformation. A movement away from the universal spirit of Brahma and towards a more practical practice.
It seems that the Brahmanistic terms used in the early Buddhist works would make sense since that would be the easiest way to make a new way of thinking accessible to the populous.
